BOSTON, Mass. – Blue Hen forward Jyare Davis has been named to the Kyle Macy Freshmen All-America Team and is a finalist for the 2022 Kyle Macy Award, presented annually to the top freshman in Division I college basketball.
Davis recently concluded an outstanding campaign in which he was named CAA Rookie of the Year and CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. He reached double figures in each of the last 14 games, and led the Blue Hens with 17 points and six rebounds vs. Villanova in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Davis ranked fifth in the CAA with a 60.6 field goal percentage, including a league-best 66.1 percentage in conference games. He scored a season-high 23 points in the regular season finale vs. UNCW, and added 22 during the win at James Madison. He recorded consecutive double-doubles in victories over JMU and Elon, and added a third vs. Drexel in the CAA Quarterfinals.
Davis averaged 16.3 points and 7.7 rebounds in the CAA Tournament, while his jumphook with a minute left put Delaware in front for good in the title game victory over UNCW. He appeared in 31 games this season, averaging 9.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest.
Davis is one of 26 players to be named a finalist for the award. The recipient of the 2022 award will be announced on April 1 in New Orleans, the site of this year's Final Four.
The award is named after Kyle Macy, the 1975 Indiana "Mr. Basketball" who played his freshman season at Purdue, averaging 13.8 points per game. He then transferred to Kentucky where he was a three-time All-American and All-SEC selection. Macy was a member of Kentucky's 1978 national championship team, and as a senior in 1979-80 became the first Kentucky player to be named consensus SEC Player of the Year.
