NEWARK, Del. – Three Blue Hen pitchers combined to allow just four hits as the Delaware baseball team won its second straight game over Rider with a 6-3 victory Saturday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.
Blue Hen starter Wyatt Nelson allowed two runs on just one hit in the opening 3.2 frames, while Zach Klapak picked up his second win of the year after giving up one run on two hits in the following 3.1 frames. Mike Biasiello then surrendered just one hit while tossing two scoreless innings to earn the save.
Joseph Carpenter finished 2 for 3 at the plate for UD, while Jake Dunion drove home a pair.
Delaware quickly loaded the bases in the bottom of the first on a Dominic Ragazzo single, JJ Freeman double and Joey Loynd walk, before RBI singles by Carpenter and Dunion gave the Blue Hens an early two-run lead.
In the third Carpenter doubled, advanced to third on an error by Rider letfielder Scott Shaw, and scored on a groundout by Dunion. Austin Elliott then legged out an infield single, and after stealing second, he scored on an RBI single by Jordan Hutchins to make it a 4-0 game.
The Broncs got two runs back in the top of the fourth on a pair of bases loaded walks, while John Volpe led off the fifth with a solo homer to cut the deficit to one.
Loynd led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and eventually scored on an Aidan Kane RBI single, before Dunion scored on a balk to close the scoring.
The weekend series wraps up Sunday with a 1 p.m. start at Bob Hannah Stadium.

"It's the classic, good pitching and timely hitting gets you the win. Klapak and Biasiello both did a great job out of the bullpen, and we had some clutch hitting including Kane's RBI single late in the game. Plus we played well defensively, so that all adds up to a big win, and we get back out here tomorrow to hopefully sweep the series."
