MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Three Cougars recorded four-hit games as Charleston defeated Delaware, 13-2, in the teams' series opener Friday night at Patriots Point.
Landon Choboy, Tanner McCalister and Cam Dean each finished with four hits on the night as the Cougars pounded out 18 hits and scored in six of their eight at bats.
Jake Dunion had both Blue Hen hits and added an RBI with a run-scoring single in the fourth.
Charleston scored single runs in each of the first two frames, before Dunion singled home JJ Freeman in top of the fourth to make it a 2-1 game. However the Cougars got the run back in the bottom of the frame, before adding three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to extend the margin to six.
The Blue Hens scored their other run in the seventh as Dunion singled and scored when Joey Loynd reached on a dropped flyball by Cougars rightfielder Sam Cochrane. But Charleston put the game away by scoring six times in the bottom half, highlighted by a Dean RBI double and a two-run triple from JT Marr.
