WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Aidan Kane and Jordan Hutchins each homered but it wasn't enough as the Delaware baseball team fell to William & Mary, 10-5, Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park.
The Tribe took control early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first as David Hogarth tripled home a pair before Jack Cone followed with a two-run homer.
The Blue Hens immediately answered in the top of the second when Jake Dunion worked a one-out walk and Kane blasted a two-run shot to right. John Weglarz then led off the third with a single, moved to second on a Bryce Greenly single, advanced to third on a JJ Freeman sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly by Joey Loynd.
Delaware took the lead in the fourth as Dunion led off with a single and two outs later Hutchins crushed a pitch over the wall in leftcenter. However William & Mary struck back with a pair in the bottom half to go back in front, 6-5.
The Tribe carried its one-run advantage until the bottom of the eighth when William & Mary added four insurance runs. Phil Conti scored the first run of the frame on an error before Cole Ragone belted a three-run homer.
Weglarz finished with a pair of hits at the plate for the Blue Hens, while six players added a hit apiece. Dom Velazquez took the loss despite allowing just two runs and striking out six in 6.1 innings of relief.
