Klapak Twirls Gem as Blue Hens Shut Out Northeastern, 4-0

NEWARK, Del. – Blue Hen righthander Zach Klapak fired seven scoreless innings before Mike Biasiello slammed the door as Delaware remained in CAA Tournament contention with a 4-0 shutout of Northeastern Thursday night at Bob Hannah Stadium.
Klapak, who picked up his team-leading sixth victory of the season, scattered just three hits while striking out six in the outstanding effort. He was helped out by three double plays, including one in the fifth when he snared a line drive and doubled the Huskies runner off first.
Klapek exited the game after walking the leadoff batter in the top of the eighth, but Biasiello struck out the next three batters and then retired the side in order in the ninth.
Delaware scored the only run it would need in the bottom of the second as Aidan Kane led off with a single to center, moved to second on a Nick Vera single, advanced to third on a Jordan Hutchins sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI groundout by John Weglarz.
JJ Freeman reached on an error to open the third, and after moving to third on a pair of wild pitches, he scored on an infield single by Kane.
The Blue Hens added a pair of runs in the sixth when Vera singled home Jake Dunion and Weglarz drove home Hutchins with a single.
Kane and Vera each finished with two hits for UD, while Weglarz added a pair of RBI.
Delaware still needs to win the next two games over the Huskies to qualify for next week's conference tournament. The series continues Friday at 3 p.m. at Hannah Stadium.

"Tonight had the feel of a playoff game. Klapak and Biasiello both threw great, and we got some timely hitting. We need another good outing out of Silan tomorrow."
