BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Delaware track & field had a pair of student-athletes compete at the NCAA East Prelims on Thursday afternoon at the Robert C. Haugh Complex on the campus of Indiana University. Taking on some of the best competition in the nation, junior Megan Albamonti and graduate student Susanna Weir battled hard in the javelin and 10,000 meters, respectively.
Weir, the lone Blue Hen competing on the track at the East Prelims, entered the 10,000m race seeded 45th with a personal best time of 34:24.34 set back on March 24 at the Raleigh Relays. The graduate student jumped 20 positions as she rounded out her career with a 25th-place finish in a time of 35:28.60.
Albamonti competed in the javelin throw, recording a long throw of 48.56 meters in her three attempts. She placed 19th overall, just missing out on qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships by 1.56 meters.
"We're really proud of Megan and Susanna for the way they represented our program at this meet," said Head Coach Ryan Waite. "Megan will be back next year and be even more prepared, and still has the US Championships to compete at in June. Susanna finished her career on a high note and we're so grateful for how she has helped elevate this team."
