NEWARK, Del. – Thanks to the generosity of University of Delaware supporters, May 4, 2022, was a special day, as I Heart UD Giving Day was once again a success for the Blue and Gold community. Delaware Athletics and Recreation raised over $220,000 from over 2,000 donors – the largest total for a giving day in our history.
The University saw over 6,000 donors give to numerous areas across campus, with over $1 million raised to celebrate I Heart UD Giving Day.
"I am incredibly grateful for the amazing support from the Delaware community on I Heart UD Day that led to a record number of donors and money raised for the department," Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services Chrissi Rawak said. "These gifts will make an enormous impact on our students, student-athletes, coaches, staff, and our entire department for years to come."
With the focus staying the same, "support our more than 600 student-athletes as they compete at the highest level, excel in the classroom, and represent our community" the gifts provided on I Heart UD Giving Day will go a long way to continue to enhance the student-athlete experience.
Nine student-led club sports programs combined to secure over $65,000 to help relieve expenses from championship travel, new equipment, tournament fees and more. These gifts will continue to provide opportunities for students to participate in fitness activities, competitive and recreational sports, and other leisure activities through the recreation and club sports programs.
The Delaware Athletics and Recreation Department would like to thank alumni, family, and friends from all around the world that gave on I Heart UD Day and the days leading up to and after the event.
Several challenges were offered to provide a competitive aspect to giving day with an opportunity to unlock bonus gifts. These challenges were made possible due to the generous support from the UD Alumni Association and the UD Board of Regents. The Sport Specific Challenge saw several programs rise to the occasion and win their select groups, while the Overall Athletics Donor Challenge saw both the 750 and 1,500 donor challenges unlocked resulting in $15,000 added to the department.
Sport Specific Challenge Winners
Blue Group
$5K – Volleyball
$2.5K – Softball
$1K - Men's Tennis
Gold Group

"I'm grateful for the way the volleyball community came together on I Heart UD Giving Day to help support our team," said Delaware Volleyball Head Coach Kim Lambert. "When our UD alums and donors are actively engaged it's a great sign for the future of our program. I appreciate their support not only on I Heart UD Giving Day, but every day in which they support our student-athletes with the hopes of making their college experience an exceptional one."
