NEWARK, Del. - The Delaware field hockey team released its 2022 schedule that features a balanced home and away slate, including 10 games versus opponents with a Top 25 RPI.
"2021 was a unique year for Delaware Field Hockey in which we were able to manage Covid-19, winning two CAA Conference Tournaments Championships and represented the University with pride in the NCAA Tournament in both Spring and Fall," said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "For 2022, we are looking forward to compete for the CAA Regular Season Championship, the CAA Conference Tournament Title and advance deeper into the NCAA Tournament."
The Blue Hens host Temple in a scrimmage on Aug.19, before kicking off the 2021 campaign with a pair of home matches against VCU (Aug. 26) and Virginia (Aug. 28).
Delaware then hits the road for away games at American (Sept. 2) and its first conference game at one of the CAA's newest members, Monmouth (Sept. 4). The squad returns home for a pair of weekend games against UConn (Sept. 9) and Penn State (Sept. 11).
The Blue Hens will head to New Jersey to play at Princeton (Sept. 16) and last yeat's NCAA Tournament No. 1 seed, Rutgers (Sept. 18), followed by a home game against St. Joe's (Sept. 25) and the home conference opener against Drexel (Sept 30).
Delaware will hit the road again to play Columbia for the teams' fifth all-time meeting (Oct. 2) and then venture down to Virginia for a CAA match-up against William & mary (Oct. 7). The Blue and Gold returns home for one game against Old Dominion (Oct. 9) before traveling to Towson (Oct. 14) and Harvard (Oct. 16).
The Blue Hens host Northeastern (Oct. 21) and Hofstra (Oct. 23) for their final conference games of the season before wrapping up the regular season on the road at Penn (Oct. 30).
"I know our 2022 players group is eager and excited in growing stronger together and becoming the best team they can be. As a coaching and support staff we will help and guide them where we can and provide them the best opportunities to achieve their goals and make lifetime memories. The goal will be – as it always will be – to play our best Delaware Hockey when it really matters which would be post season in November."
The Blue Hens will host the CAA Championship for the seventh consecutive year. The tournament will take place on Nov. 4 and 6 in Newark.
The 2022 NCAA Tournament opens on Nov. 11 with first and second-round games at campus sites. The NCAA semifinals and championship will be conducted on Nov. 18 and 20 in Storrs, Conn.
Delaware concluded the 2021 season with a 13-9 overall record and a 5-1 CAA record. The Blue Hens won their eighth CAA Tournament title in nine seasons and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time in school history.
