RICHMOND, Va. – The defending Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) men's basketball champion Blue Hens will open their title defense against Hofstra on Thursday, December 29, the CAA noted in the announcement of the 2022-23 league schedule on Tuesday.
Teams will play an 18-game conference schedule against all 12 league foes that features six repeat opponents, three home-only opponents, and three away-only opponents, marking the first time since 2012-13 that the league has not played a full double round-robin schedule. In total, each team will play nine home games and nine road games.
The league accommodated regional rivalries with input from the institutions throughout the process for the selection of repeat opponents, which were announced in July. All conference games will be available nationally on either FloHoops or CBS Sports Network, with some contests on various regional sports networks on the East Coast. Television information and game times will be announced at a later date.
UD opens league play with three of its first four games in the confines of the Bob Carpenter Center as the Blue Hens entertain Elon (12/31) and Towson (1/11) in addition to Hofstra. The lone road game over that stretch is at Charleston (1/7).
Four of the next five are on the road for Delaware as it travels to Hofstra (1/14), Northeastern (1/16), Drexel (1/21), and Hampton (1/26) with the single home contest being against William & Mary (1/19).
A weekend game in Newark against Northeastern (1/28) rounds out January before the Blue Hens take on new conference foe, Monmouth (2/2) in West Long Branch. The next three contests will take place at home as Charleston (2/4), Drexel (2/8) and Stony Brook (2/13) head to The First State.
The last stretch of the regular season sees UD on the road for four of the final five games. The stretch starts at Towson (2/16), followed by UNCW (2/18) at home, at North Carolina A&T (2/23), and at Elon (2/25).
All 13 teams will partake in the 2023 CAA Tournament from March 3-7, 2023, at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.
