Women’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at Villanova
8/21/2022 3:09:00 PM | Women's Soccer
VILLANOVA, Pa. – The first career goal of Lea Panagiotidis' career was the only score for Delaware women's soccer (1-0-1) on Sunday as it played to a 1-1 draw at Villanova (0-1-1). Unlike in previous seasons, no overtime periods follow the 90-minute regulation.
"I'm proud of the kids for their effort today," head coach Mike Barroqueiro said. "Villanova is a difficult place to play with the turf and the heat. I thought our kids showed their toughness despite playing on tired legs. Time to recuperate and get ready for Virginia Tech."
The hosting Wildcats jumped ahead in the 26th minute with a one touch goal inside the box from Izzy Newton off a feed from Lauren Belcuore.
A free kick at 30 yards out from Lauren Elwell made its way into the box where Grace Harvey tapped it to Panagiotidis for the equalizer with 16 ticks left in the fist half.
In net, Mia Reed picks up the decision with four saves and the lone goal allowed.
The Blue Hens are back on the pitch at Virginia Tech on Thursday with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
