Women’s Soccer Preview: Virginia Tech and Richmond

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's soccer team will continue road play with two more road matches this week. The Blue Hens will take on Virginia Tech on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Richmond on Sunday at 1 p.m.

What You Need to Know:

The Blue Hens started 2022 1-0 after a 3-0 win over Delaware State at home. UD then played Villanova to a 1-1 draw three days later to go 1-0-1 after week one.
In the lone matchup of the Blue Hens versus Virginia Tech, Delaware won the game, 3-1, in 1994. Delaware and Richmond are tied 1-1 in the all-time series with the Blue Hens winning the last matchup, 3-0, at home in Newark in 2019.
After leading UD in goals scored in 2021, Sara D'Appolonia has two goals and one assist on her resume in 2022. Izzy Lane leads the team with three assists, while Mia Reed has five saves in goal.

The Opponent

Virginia Tech is 1-0-1 on the season. The Hokies defeated CAA foe William & Mary 4-3 in their season opener, before notching an 0-0 draw versus Indiana. Tori Powell leads the way for Virginia Tech with two goals on the season, while Natalie Mitchell has two assists.
Richmond is 0-1-1 after a 1-0 loss to Longwood in its opener and a 0-0 draw at Charlotte. Molly Wierman has scored the lone goal for the Spiders this season.
