NEWARK, Del. – iHeartMedia and University of Delaware Athletics are proud to announce that for the third time in the last four seasons, "Voice of the Blue Hens" Scott Klatzkin has been named the Delaware Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). The 2022 honor marks the sixth time he has won the award, having previously been selected in 2009, 2012, 2016, 2019 and 2020.
With his sixth honor, Klatzkin becomes the second winningest Delaware sportscaster in the award's history dating back to 1959. Bob Kelley, longtime Delaware football voice from 1950 – 1987 and UD Athletics Hall of Famer, leads with an extraordinary 19 honors all-time.
"Scott has been a valued member of not only the Delaware Football family, but all of Delaware Athletics for more than a decade," said head football coach Ryan Carty. "The hard work and preparation he puts in for each and every broadcast make him a great asset to our program as he diligently illustrates UD Football to our great fans. I could not be more happy for Scott to see him deservedly recognized for all that he does."
In 2022, the Delaware native completed his 10th season and began his 11th as the Blue Hens play-by-play broadcaster for football and men's basketball. For the first time in his career, Klatzkin called the action for both the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament and the FCS Football Playoffs in the same calendar year. Klatzkin commentated as the Blue Hens won the 2022 CAA Men's Basketball Championship and advanced to take on Villanova in the NCAA Tournament First Round. Later in the fall, he was back in the booth as the Hens advanced to the Second Round of the FCS Football Playoffs.
"It's rare that one encounters a talent with such dedication, focus, professionalism and adaptability," says iHeartMedia Area President, Brit Goldstein. "Through all of the changes that have occurred through the recent years there has been one constant, the excellence of our University of Delaware broadcast programs, thanks to Scott Klatzkin and his team."
In addition to his radio roles, Klatzkin provided commentary for multiple men's basketball games airing on NBC Sports Philadelphia and hosted two Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremonies last year. In the spring, Klatzkin emceed as Mike Adams and Matt Nagy were honored and helped welcome in the Class of 2022 this past fall at the Whitney Athletic Center.
Beyond his play-by-play duties, Klatzkin was also recognized in 2022 as one of the top business leaders in the state, being named to the Delaware Business Times' "40 Dynamic Leaders Under 40" list.
The News Journal's Brad Myers claimed Delaware Sportswriter of the Year honors for the second time in his career.
