Men’s Lacrosse Tabbed No. 14 in USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Poll

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware men's lacrosse was picked No. 14 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Top 20 Poll, the organization announced.
Last season, the Blue Hens defeated No. 2 Georgetown in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, and lost to Cornell in the NCAA Quarterfinals. The Hoyas and Big Red rank No. 3 and No. 4 in the preseason poll.
Offensively, Delaware returns three of its top players, JP Ward, Mike Robinson, and Tye Kurtz. Ward led the Blue Hens, and the Colonial Athletic Association, in points with 72. Robinson led the squad, and the CAA, in goals with 53. Kurtz was second on the team, and the CAA, with 52 goals.
Defensively, the Blue Hens return two-time CAA Defensive Player of the Year Owen Grant. Grant led the Blue Hens, and finished second in the CAA, in caused turnovers with 38.
Matt Kilkeary returns in net for UD. Kilkeary appeared in 16 games, and made 12 starts. He boasted a 7-3 record, had a .530 save percentage, and a 10.33 goals against average, which ranks best among CAA goalkeepers.
The Blue Hens main faceoff athletes Logan Premtaj, also return for the 2023 season. Premtaj won 197 faceoffs, which ranks second in the CAA, and had a .475 faceoff percentage.
The Blue Hens are the lone ranked program among all CAA teams. The defending CAA Tournament Champions boasted a 13-win season, the most wins for the program since the 2006-2007 season.
In last year's preseason poll, the Blue Hens started the year ranked No. 16, and finished at No. 15.
Delaware takes on two opponents receiving consideration in this year's preseason poll when it takes on Villanova at Delaware Stadium (Feb. 26), and at Johns Hopkins (March 19) in Baltimore, Md. The Blue Hens defeated Johns Hopkins in a thrilling 12-10 victory at Delaware Stadium last season.
UD opens the season on Saturday, Feb. 11 against Lafayette in Easton, Pa.
