Five Blue Hens Garner All-CAA Awards For Field Hockey

RICHMOND, Va. – Five University of Delaware field hockey players earned All-CAA honors in 2023, the conference office announced Thursday morning.
Senior Berber Bakermans was named First-Team All-CAA while junior Genevieve Johnson and sophomore Noelle Sabbagh were both named All-CAA Second-Team. Additionally for the Blue Hens, freshmen Rachael Whitehead and Kate Fiest were named to the All-Rookie Team.
Bakermans, a Best, Netherlands native, earned her second consecutive All-CAA First-Team honor in 2023. The midfielder appeared in all 17 games, making 16 starts. She was second on the squad with 14 points, scoring five goals including two game-winners and tallying four assists.
Johnson, a midfielder from Richmond, Va. earned her first All-CAA honor since 2021 when she was named to the All-Rookie Team. Johnson started all 17 games for the Blue Hens this season as she scored three goals and recorded one assist for 14 points.
Sabbagh, a forward from Lewes, Del. started all 17 games for the Hens this season. She was third on the team in goals scored with four including a two-goal performance in an 8-0 win over Villanova back on Sept. 1.
This is the 14th year in a row a Blue Hen was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team and ninth time multiple Hens rookies were honored. Whitehead, a Hockessin, Del. native appeared in all 17 games, making 16 starts. She scored two goals and recorded three assists for seven points. Fiest, a Yorktown, Va. native appeared in all 17 games, starting in 15. She scored her first-career goal in a 2-0 win over Drexel on Oct. 20.
This is the eighth year since the program moved to the CAA in 2002 that the Delaware field hockey team has featured multiple Blue Hens on both the All-CAA teams and the All-Rookie team in the same year.
