RICHMOND, Va. – Delaware junior attackman JP Ward, and freshman attackman Finn Morgan were named Colonial Athletic Association's Players of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday.
Ward received Offensive Player of the Week honors. He is the second Blue Hen, along with Tye Kurtz, to receive the award this season. Morgan received the league's Rookie of the Week honors. He is the first Blue Hen to receive Rookie of the Week honors since Mike Robinson did back in on May 3, 2021.
Ward tallied 15 points with six goals and nine assists, helping Delaware to a 2-0 week. In Wednesday's 15-6 win over Mount St. Mary's, Ward matched a career-high with eight points, leading the Blue Hens with four goals and four assists. The point total marks the most by a CAA player in a game this season. On Saturday, the Owing Mills, Md. native followed the performance with seven points. He dished out a career-high five assists and registered two goals as Delaware improved to 3-0 with a 16-9 win over St. John's. The five assists are a single-game league-high this spring. Ward leads the conference in points with 17 and assists with nine.
Morgan recorded four points for the Blue Hens last week, including his first career hat trick. On Saturday, the freshman from Haddonfield, N.J. recorded his first hat trick in his initial collegiate start in Delaware's 16-9 win over St. John's. Morgan tied the game at one with his first career goal before adding back-to-back goals in the third quarter, which led to a 6-1 run in the third quarter. In his collegiate debut, Finn registered his first career assist as the Blue Hens took down Mount St. Mary's 15-6 on Wednesday.
The Blue Hens continue their five-game homestand against Villanova on Sunday, Feb. 26 at noon.
