Blue Hens Drop Home Game Against Villanova

NEWARK, Del. – No. 10/10/11 Delaware men's lacrosse loses its first game of the season against (RV) Villanova 13-12 on Sunday at Delaware Stadium.
With the loss, Delaware is now 3-1 and Villanova improves its record to 2-1.
After the Wildcats took a 3-1 lead with under five minutes in the first quarter, the Blue Hens went on a 4-0 run to take a 5-3 lead. The run was started by Kurtz, who scored his first goal of the game with 14 seconds in the first, and was ended by Finn Morgan with a goal less than six minutes in the second quarter. Kurtz and Morgan scored two goals each during the run.
Kurtz's first goal of the game extends his consecutive points in a game streak to 50. He becomes the second player in program history, along with Curtis Dickson, to do so. His streak is currently the second longest streak among active players, along with Virginia's Thomas McConvey.
Villanova entered the second half with a 6-5 lead and extended it to 8-6 with under nine minutes left in the third. The Blue Hens proceeded to go on a 3-0 run with goals from Clay Miller and JP Ward in the 41st and 42nd minute of the third quarter. Brendan Powers finished the run and gave the Blue Hens a 9-8 lead in the first minute of the 4th quarter.
Nova proceeded on a 4-0 run to take a 12-9 lead, but the Blue Hens wouldn't go down without a fight. They went on a 3-0 run to tie the game at 12 apiece. Kurtz had a pair of goals in the games' 53th and 56th minutes. Morgan tied the game with a goal in the 57th minute.
Villanova's Matt Campbell scored the game-winning goal with under two minutes to play. Morgan had a great look with 11 seconds in the game, but the shot would hit the post.
Offensively, the Blue Hens were led by Ward, Kurtz, and Morgan. The three combined for 10 of Delaware's 12 goals, and five assists. Kurtz led in goals with four, and points with six.
Defensively, Owen Grant caused four turnovers. He now has 94 caused turnovers in his Delaware career and will look to become the first player in Blue Hen history to have 100 or more caused turnovers.
Matt Kilkeary was given the decision for today's game. He had 15 saves, and allowed 13 goals. His record stands at 3-1 in net.
Delaware continues its homestand against Michigan on Saturday, March 4. It will be the start of three home games in a seven-day stretch for the Blue Hens.
