Big First Inning Buries Baseball at Elon

ELON, N.C. - The University of Delaware baseball team (9-12, 2-2 CAA) lost game one of the weekend series at Elon (14-8, 6-1 CAA) Friday night, falling by a score of 12-2.
JJ Freeman led off the game with a solo home run to right field to give the Blue Hens an early 1-0 lead.Â
Responding quickly, in the bottom of the first the Phoenix put seven runs on the board with a two-RBI double, grand slam, and a solo shot to left.Â
Joey Silan came on in relief of Delaware starter Eli Atiya to begin the second inning and pitched three scoreless frames before running into some trouble in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded, Elon added on two more runs off an infield single and a sac fly.Â
After pinch hitting in the fourth inning, a Jackson Tyer single in the sixth allowed Josearmando Diaz to score, and the Hens cut the deficit to seven.Â
A two-run home run in the sixth and an RBI groundout in the eighth rounded out the scoring for the Phoenix, making it 12-2.Â

Aidan Kane had two singles, while eight different Blue Hens recorded hits.Â
The second game of the series is Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
