HAMPTON, Va. - It was a tale of two halves as the University of Delaware women's basketball team couldn't overcome the second half surge Hampton (11-17, 8-10 CAA) made and dropped the 77-72 road regular-season finale Saturday afternoon inside Convocation Center in Hampton, Va. The Blue Hens close out the regular season with a 16-13 mark on the season and 9-9 in conference play.
After Hampton opened the game on a 8-2 spurt, Tara Cousins poured in a pair of free throws at the 6:56 mark that kickstarted a dominating 24-7 run to help build the 11-point lead, 26-15. Ariana Wilkes closed out the first quarter scoring for the Pirates by sinking a free throw, 26-10.
Camryn Hill connected from deep at the 4:42 mark in the second quarter for Hampton to pull within single digits, 30-21. Makayla Pippin laid in two as part of the Blue Hens 7-2 run for the lead balloon back up to a quarter high 14-points, 37-23, with 46 seconds left. Another pair of free throws by the Pirates with five seconds left sent the 37-25 game into the break.

Hampton was determined not to spoil senior day and started chipping away at the lead in the remaining 2:21 and made it a nine-point game, 55-46, heading into the final quarter of play.
Hampton applied pressure throught the fourth and outscored Delaware 31-17 to settle the 77-72 final.
