Swimming & Diving Sends 12 To CSCAA Championship

NEWARK, Del. – The Delaware men's and women's swimming & diving program will send 12 student-athletes, six men and six women, to compete in the CSCAA National Invitational Championship from March 9-11, 2023 at the Beacon Health Aquatic Center in Elkhart, Ind.

Nicole Chiappa, Cristin Earley, Anthi Lyra, Aislinn Mitchell, Erin Shema, and Mania Tasakou will represent the women, while Gavin Currie, DJ Fechtman, Jack Hattery, Matvei Namakonov, Andrew Taylor, and Miguel Vasquez will represent the men.

Shema was a four-time medalist in her first CAA Championship, earning gold in the 400 and 800 free relay, silver in the 400-medley relay, and bronze in the 200 IM. Lyra earned a pair of gold medals in the 400 and 800 free relay, while Mitchell earned a silver in the 400-medley relay and a bronze in the 200 fly and Tasakou earned a silver in the 400-medley relay. Earley finished in seventh in the 100 back and eighth in the 200 back at the CAA Championships. Chiappa was a finalist in the 200 free at the CAA Championship, finishing in 13th.

Currie was a six-time medalist at this year's Conference Championships, earning gold in the 200 back and 200 and 400 medley relay, silver in the 100 back and 800 free relay, and bronze in the 500 free. Namakonov won a gold medal in the 200-medley relay while Vasquez won a gold medal in the 400-medley relay. Taylor won three silver medals at the championships; in the 500 free, 1650 free, and 800 free relay, while Hattery was a silver medalist in the 200 fly. Fechtman was a bronze medalist in the 200 back.
