WASHINGTON, D.C. – Delaware men's lacrosse attackman Tye Kurtz was named among the 25 men's and women's nominees for the 2023 Tewaaraton Award announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Thursday.
The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are comprised of premier college coaches and are appointed annually. The committee will narrow down the list to five men and five women on May 11.
Kurtz ranks second in the NCAA with 65 points and 44 goals, leading the Colonial Athletic Association in both categories. Kurtz has broken a number of program records this season, including the all-time points and goals in a career, as well as consecutive games with at least a point. He currently stands at 259 career points, 166 career goals, and is on a current streak of 58 games with at least a point.
Last week, the redshirt senior became the conference's all-time leading goal scorer, netting his 165th and 166th career tallies. It came one week after breaking the league's record for career points (259). Kurtz has at least two goals and three points in every game this season. The Ontario native has five or more points on nine occasions, with at least four goals in eight contests. Kurtz earned Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention accolades and has been the CAA Offensive Player of the Week twice this spring.
Kurtz becomes the first Blue Hen since Charlie Kitchen back in 2021 to be named a nominee.
The Blue Hens play their final regular season home game against Drexel on Saturday, April 22.
