NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware softball team had a pair of student-athletes named to the 2023 CAA Softball All-Tournament Team. Kiara Mills and Emily Winburn were both selected following the conclusion of the tournament on Saturday.
Mills was one of Delaware's offensive leaders at last week's tournament, recording three hits in the two games. The graduate student was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year, recording a .995 fielding percentage on 435 chances. In addition to her stellar defense, Mills made an impact in the middle of the lineup as she led UD with three home runs and tied for the team lead with 26 RBI. She batted .315 with a .476 slugging percentage and a .410 on-base percentage.
Winburn fired 13.0 innings in Delaware's two CAA Tournament games, pitching a complete, 8.0-inning game against Towson as well as throwing 5.0 innings of two-hit relief against Stony Brook. She put together one of the best seasons in the circle in program history, earning Delaware's first-ever CAA Pitcher of the Year honors. Winburn went 17-9 overall with a 12-3 record in league play. The senior posted a 2.16 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 155.2 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .219 batting average.
Delaware won its second-straight CAA Regular Season Championship with an 18-5 record in conference play. Six Blue Hen earned All-CAA honors and the squad took home three major postseason awards. Along with Mills and Winburn, Jen Steele and her staff earned their second-consecutive CAA Coach of the Year honor.
