Softball Has Five Named To CSC Academic All-District Team

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware softball players Bridget Chapman, Josie Crossman, Katie Scheivert, Kylie Wilkerson, and Claire Woods were all named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as announced by the organization on May 26.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District Team, a player must carry a 3.50 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore academically. Position players must also play in at least 90 percent of their team's games or start in at least two-thirds of them to qualify. For pitchers, eligible nominees need to pitch 35-plus innings or appear in 17 games as a pitcher.
Chapman, a human services major, had a breakout sophomore campaign after becoming a full-time starter. She hit .258/.305/.409 with four home runs and 22 RBIs. She delivered a walk-off single against Georgetown on Feb. 14 and hit a three-run home run against New Mexico State in the CUSA Tournament on May 6.
Crossman, a health behavior science major, earned Third Team All-Region honors and was a Second Team All-CUSA selection as a sophomore. She went 14-9 as a sophomore with a 3.42 ERA across 145.1 innings, recording 106 strikeouts. Among CUSA pitchers, she ranked in the top 10 in innings pitched, wins, strikeouts, shutouts, saves, and complete games.
Scheivert, a sport management major, capped her career with her best offensive season. She was named Second Team All-CUSA after hitting .345/.436/.450 with three home runs, 28 RBIs, and 36 runs scored. Over her career, she played and started in every game, reaching milestones of 200 hits and 100 runs scored. She was also named Delaware's Mary Ann Hitchens Award recipient, the department's highest honor, this past season. Scheivert earned Academic All-District recognition in all three years she was eligible.
Wilkerson, a finance major, earned the honor in her first season after transferring to Delaware. She appeared in 28 games, pitching 61.2 innings and earning five wins. On May 1 against WKU, she tossed 6.2 shutout innings in a victory that helped Delaware secure a top-four seed in the CUSA Tournament.
Woods, a graduate student, wrapped up her career at Delaware after transferring from Middle Tennessee. She appeared in 30 games with 12 starts and went 6-7 in 76.1 innings. She threw a four-hit shutout against Maryland on April 21.
Delaware has had five players earn academic all district honors in three-straight years. UD ended the season at 31-24 and 17-10 in conference play in its inaugural CUSA season. Delaware has won at least 30 games in three consecutive seasons for the first time in program history.
