Softball has Four Named to NFCA Northeast All-Region Teams

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware softball team had four student-athletes named to National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Northeast All-Region Teams on Thursday afternoon. Emily Winburn was a first team selection while Hanna Garber and Taylor Wroten were both named to the second team and Julz Garber received third team recognition.
The all-region teams honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. A total of 381 student-athletes from 158 programs received all-region accolades. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2023 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
Winburn earns her second-straight all-region honor after being a second-team selection last season. She put together one of the best seasons in the circle in program history, earning Delaware's first-ever CAA Pitcher of the Year honors as well as All-CAA First Team recognition. Winburn went 17-9 overall with a 12-3 record in league play. The senior posted a 2.16 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 155.2 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .219 batting average. Winburn was named the CAA Pitcher of the Week five times during the regular season and was selected to the CAA All-Tournament Team.
Hanna Garber has now earned NFCA All-Region honors in three-consecutive seasons. She earned her fourth career All-CAA selection and her third-straight nod to the first team as she put together another remarkable season for the Blue Hens. She led the squad with a .360 batting average while leading the way with 59 hits, 32 runs scored, 13 doubles and four triples as well as a .524 slugging percentage and .414 on-base percentage. The fifth-year mathematics education major broke the program record for runs scored, setting the new mark of 161, and finished her UD career among the top five in hits, doubles, triples and stolen bases.
Taylor Wroten made an immediate impact in her first season with the Blue & Gold, pitching to the tune of an 8-4 record with a team-leading 1.93 ERA in 127.0 innings to earn All-CAA Second Team honors. She struck out 71 while holding opponents to a .188 batting average. In 14 appearances in CAA play, Wroten's numbers improved to a 6-1 record with a 1.08 ERA and .162 batting average against in 65.0 innings. She fired four overall shutouts and registered two of her three saves against league opponents.
Julz Garber received her first all-region nod after being named to the All-CAA Second Team to earn her third postseason honor in three years. She was a dynamic force at the top of the UD lineup, batting .358 with 57 base hits and a .401 on-base percentage while leading the team with 17 stolen bases and eight sacrifice bunts. She was also tops on the Blue Hens with 19 multi-hit games, including the team's only four-hit performance.
Delaware won its second-straight CAA Regular Season Championship with an 18-5 record in conference play. Six Blue Hen earned All-CAA honors and the squad took home three major postseason awards. Along with Mills and Winburn, Jen Steele and her staff earned their second-consecutive CAA Coach of the Year honor.
