Grant, Kurtz, Selected in Premier Lacrosse League Draft

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware men's lacrosse defender Owen Grant, and attackman Tye Kurtz were selected in the 2023 Premier League Lacrosse draft on Tuesday.
Grant was selected second overall by the Redwoods Lacrosse Club. Grant joins Delaware alumni John Grant and Chris Collins, both of whom are assistant coaches on the Redwoods staff. Grant becomes the highest PLL draft pick in program history, and is the second Blue Hen ever to be drafted in the first round. Prior to Grant, Alex Smith was selected first overall back in the 2007 NLL draft.
The redshirt senior defender out of Newmarket, Ontario leads the Blue Hens in caused turnovers with 34, and is two away from breaking his own program for most caused turnovers in a season. Grant also owns the program record for most caused turnovers in a career. He has caused a turnover in 14 of the Blue Hens 16 games, including seven games with at least three. On the offensive end, Grant's scored seven goals, and added one assist. He scored a goal in four of the Blue Hens seven conference games, and one goal in the CAA Tournament. For the third year in a row, Grant was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, the first player in CAA history to do so. Earlier today, Grant was named a USA Lacrosse Magazine second team All-American.
Kurtz was selected with the first pick in the third round (17th overall) by the Chaos Lacrosse Club. Kurtz has had one of the most productive offensive seasons in program history. The redshirt senior from Puslinch, Ontario leads the Blue Hens in goals with 49, and is tied for first in points with 76. Kurtz has registered at least two goals in 14 of the Blue Hens 16 games this season. He was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year, and is a Tewaaraton nominee. Earlier in the season, Kurtz broke the program record for goals, points, and man-up goals in a career, as well as consecutive games with at least a point. In addition, he was also named to the CAA All-Tournament team after Delaware clinched its second straight berth in the NCAA Tournament, and a USA Lacrosse Magazine third team All-American.
Delaware men's lacrosse is set to host Marist on Wednesday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at Delaware Stadium.
