NEWARK, DEL. – Two University of Delaware men's lacrosse alumni recently signed their first National Lacrosse League contracts as Tye Kurtz signed with the Albany FireWolves Lacrosse Club while Owen Grant signed with the Vancouver Warriors.
"The names of Owen Grant and Tye Kurtz will be forever etched in the record books here at Delaware as two of the very best to compete for the Blue & Gold," said head men's lacrosse coach Ben DeLuca." "Both young men have aspired to compete professionally since they first started playing in grade school, and to see their dreams come to fruition is equally exciting and awe-inspiring."
The National Lacrosse League was founded in 1986 and is played inside the confines of an ice hockey rink, with glass and rink boards intact. There are 15 franchises across the U.S. and Canada stretching from Albany to Vancouver and Toronto to San Diego.
Kurtz and Grant, both Ontario natives and members of the UD class of 2023, each hold all-time marks for the Blue & Gold. Kurtz is the all-time leader in goals scored, tallying 180 for his career while Grant became the program's all-time leader in caused turnovers with 127.
"I am sure that they will continue to represent Delaware Lacrosse with distinction as they begin their professional careers in both the Premiere Lacrosse League and the National Lacrosse League," DeLuca said of his standout alumni.
