Women's Soccer Drops Conference Home Opener Against William & Mary

NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware women's soccer program dropped its Coastal Athletic Associations home opener 1-0 against William & Mary on Sunday, Sept. 10 at Grant Stadium.
With the loss, the Blue Hens overall record drops to 3-3-2, and 0-1-1 in conference play.

- "The margins are thin. We've worked a lot on set pieces so we're disappointed to concede and that early in the game but when we were brave today we played some very intelligent soccer," head coach Kelly Lawrence said. "We continue to be pleased with the mentality and character of this group and this helps us not to dwell on results. Â A day of rest will be great and then turn around quickly to focus on Thursday's road game."

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Offensively, the Blue Hens had 10 shots and three shots on goal while the Tribe had 13 total shots and four shots on goal.
- Leilah Sallee and Caitlin St. Leger led the way with two shots and one shot on goal a piece.
- In goal, Mia Reed started and played the full 90 minutes between the pipes. She had three saves and allowed one goal. Her record is now 3-3-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Tribe scored the games lone goal in the eighth minute of the first half. Nora Green-Orset's shot was blocked, but she regained possession and found the back of the net a few moments later.
- Sallee had two great chances to tie the game in the second half. Her first shot was saved by the Tribe's goalkeeper in the 68th minute, and her second shot was just off target in the 72nd minute.
GAME NOTES
- Reed, Carly Binn, and Lea Panagiotidis were the three Blue Hens who played in all 90 minutes of Sunday's contest
- On the day, 21 Blue Hens earned playing time, 20 of the 21 played at least 10 minutes.
- Sunday was the 21st all-time meeting between the Tribe and Blue Hens. The Tribe are now 14-4-3 in the series
