Women's Soccer's Late Second Half Goals Leads to Tie Against Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - A goal in the 87th minute of the second half leads to a 2-2 tie against Costal Athletic Association foe Stony Brook for the University of Delaware women's soccer program Thursday.
With the tie, the Blue Hens overall record is 3-3-3, 0-1-2 in conference play.

- "We are proud of the resilience and team effort to earn a point on the road," assistant coach Maddy Evans said. "Equalizing after a two goal deficit is a testament to the character in this team. Tonight's battle left us wanting more and challenges us to put a more complete 90 minute performance together. We are excited for the opportunities ahead of us in conference play and continue to be impressed with the fight in this group."
- "We showed resilience after going down 2-0 and I'm proud of the way we responded tonight," midfielder Lauren Elwell said. "Happy to get a point on the road but it is crucial that we look to turn these ties in to wins moving forward."
- Offensively, the Blue Hens had nine shots, including four shots on goal.
- Mia Reed and Odaliana Gomez split time in net. Reed played for the first half, had two saves, and allowed two goals. Gomez played in the second half, and had two saves.
- Three of the games four goals came in the first half.
- The Seawolves scored the games first two goals at the ninth and 31st minute of the first half.
- The Blue Hens didn't strike until the 41st minute when Maggie Groh netted her first career goal as a Blue Hen. After a Seawolves defensive breakdown, Groh found herself with a wide-open net and score the goal.
- After over 40 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Blue Hens tied the game with a Constanze Viehmann goal with more than two minutes to play. Lea Panagiotidis received the pass off a free kick, and slide the ball to Viehmann. Her shot just went past the goal line to tie the game.
- Viehmann was the lone Blue Hen to play all 90 minutes. She is also the first Blue Hen to record multiple goals this season.
- Groh's goal made her the eighth Blue Hen to score a goal this season.
- On the day, 20 Blue Hens received playing time, including 19 who recorded at least 10 or more minutes of game action. This is the second game in a row where the Blue Hens played at least 20 players.
- Thursday was the 10th all-time meeting between the Blue Hens and Seawolves. This is the first time in series history the two programs tied. The tie also snaps a three-game losing streak against the Seawolves.
- With the tie, the Blue Hens remain undefeated on Thursday's with a 3-0-2 record.Â
- The Blue Hens have another conference road game, this time in Philadelphia, on Sunday, Sept. 17 against Drexel.
