PHILADELPHIA – The University of Delaware field hockey team fell 3-1 to No. 13-ranked Saint Joseph's University Sunday afternoon on the road.

One trying to battle St Joe's, while the other believing in themselves, playing free and putting it to St Joe's," said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "Our young team learns from both experienced scenarios and will continue to improve its mindset and performance moving forward."

Freshman Rachael Whitehead scored her first career goal on an assist from Berber Bakermans to put the Hens on the board in the final seconds
Freshman Amanda Cimillo made her collegiate debut in the fourth quarter and recorded her first career saves.
Junior Genevieve Johnson led the way with three shots on the day

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hens fell behind 1-0 at the 8:16 mark in the first as Saint Joe's Lily Santi fired one high into the Blue Hens cage.
After a scoreless second quarter, the Blue Hens entered the third down 1-0, but the Hawks tacked on two more in the period to take a 3-0 lead headed to the fourth.
In the fourth, the two squads held each other scoreless until the final seconds as Bakermans dribbled into the circle, fired low, and found the back of the Hawks cage to end the shutout.

Cimillo tallied two saves in the cage

Delaware returns to action on Friday, Sept. 22 as the Blue Hens host Monmouth in a CAA matchup at Rullo Stadium. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
