Late Goal Leads To Tie For Women's Soccer Against Northeastern

NEWARK, Del. – A goal off the foot of Sydni Wright with less than 10 seconds in regulation propels the University of Delaware women's soccer program to a 1-1 tie against Northeastern on Thursday at Grant Stadium.
With the tie, the Blue Hens overall record is now 3-4-5 and to 0-2-4 in conference play.

- "We showed a lot of fight and character. The never give up attitude is in our veins. We can continue to grow in taking care of the details, setting each other up for success and being brave in everything that we do," head coach Kelly Lawrence said.
- "It was a hard fought game and a team effort," Wright said. "I'm just glad we could walk away with a point at the end of the day on our home field."
- Wright's goal was the first of the season, and was her first goal since 2021.
- Kyla Burns started and played all 90 minutes in net for the Blue Hens. She allowed one goal and had five saves. She's collected 10 saves over the past two games. She's now 0-1-2 for the season.
- The Blue Hens had six shots tonight, including two shots on goal. Wright and Willa Pratt had multiple shots.
- Northeastern scored the first goal of the game in the 24th minute of the first half.
- The Blue Hens had chances to score in the second half. Pratt had a solid look in the 74th minute of the second half, but her shot was high and off target.
- Wright scored her goal off a Raychel Speicher cross. After Speicher crossed the ball into the goalie box, it deflected off multiple Huskies defenders. Wright shot hit off a Huskies defender, and the goalkeepers glove, but still found the back of the net to secure a point for the Blue Hens.
- All 17 players who competed for Delaware played in at least 10 minutes tonight.
- Tonight's contest was the 25th all-time between the Blue Hens and Huskies. The Blue Hens own the series advantage 12-8-5, including a 7-3-2 advantage in Newark.
- The Blue Hens will stay at home and host Charleston on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. The Blue Hens will celebrate senior day and will honor 11 student athletes.
