Second Half Struggles Halt Men’s Basketball at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA – A strong second half from Drexel proved too much for the University of Delaware men's basketball team Saturday afternoon as the Blue Hens fell 86-67 to the league-leading Dragons. UD drops to 11-8 overall and 3-3 in league play, while Drexel improves to 14-6, 7-0 CAA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Gerald Drumgoole Jr. led the team with 18 points. He added six rebounds and three assists. This is his fourth-straight game with at least 16 points.
Jyáre Davis tallied 17 points and corralled seven boards.
Niels Lane rounded out a trio of double-digit scorers with 10 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After the Hens scored the first bucket of the game, Drexel tallied seven unanswered up to the 17-minute mark. The hosts pushed it to 12-4 before a pair of triples from Drumgoole Jr. cut the gap to 12-10 at the under-16 media stoppage. Delaware used an 8-0 run to pull ahead 20-17. An 11-4 Drexel advantage pulled the home team up 28-24 with 6:35 on the clock. The Hens clawed back and knotted the game at 34 with a Davis putback as the halftime horn sounded.
Quick out of the break, the Dragons recorded a 13-5 differential to go up 47-39 to force a UD timeout with 17:16 to play. Drexel would continue to build the lead throughout the second half with its largest margin coming at the final horn.
