Dumas Shines As Track & Field Compete At River Hawk Invitational

BOSTON -Â Â The University of Delaware track & field team headed up North to Boston, Mass. Friday to compete at the River Hawk Invitational, hosted by UMass Lowell. Head coach Kenyetta Iyevbele took her flock of 21 Blue Hens geared up to compete in 15 events inside the TRACK at new balance, a track the Blue & Gold hopes to be competing in early March at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Headlined by rookie Kadence Dumas' victory in the 500m, Delaware closed out the first month of the new year setting 10Â personal-best and three season-best times/marks.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Dumas ran a personal-best time of 1:14.92 in the 500m to win the event. Her time now sits fifth in school history.
- Hannah Smalley also competed in the 500m for the first time in her career and ran a PR time of 1:19.52 to finish ninth overall.
- The distance trio of Lindsey Volkman, Leah Clear and Tiffany Herrera took the mile by storm and set new shiny PRs.Â
- Volkman led the Blue Hens with a time of 5:08.22 (eighth overall)
- Clear followed with a time of 5:10.53 (11th overall) and Tiffany posted a time of 5:12.71 (17th overall)
- In the 200m, Jacquelyn Rolle posted a personal-best time of 25.51, which was good enough for 20th overall
- Alexa Dougherty won her 400m heat with a PR time of 1:01.21 (28th overall)
- Kosie Nkwonta led the way on the throws side by maintaining her fifth place position in the school record books for the weight throw.
- Nkwonta first throw of the event flew in the air for a personal-best 16.93m to finish fifth in the event.
- Sarah Sharp was the lone Blue Hen multi competing. Sharp set new PRs in the long jump (4.70m, 59th overall) and shot put (8.23m, 41st overall)

The Blue Hens will open February in State College, Pa., set to compete at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge, hosted by Penn State next Saturday (Feb. 3). It will be a homecoming for assistant coach Darrell Hill as the meet is slated to start at 10:30 a.m. inside Multi-Sport Facility & Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
