Late Rally Not Enough for Men’s Basketball at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Despite a late rally Saturday afternoon to close the deficit from 16 to three, the University of Delaware men's basketball team (9-6, 1-1 CAA) fell at Hofstra (8-7, 1-1 CAA), 76-71.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Christian Ray led the team with a season-best 20 points and added 10 rebounds to complete the double-double.
- Jyáre Davis, Niels Lane, and Cavan Reilly each registered 11 points.
- Gerald Drumgoole Jr. recorded his second double-digit rebounding effort on the season with a game-high 11 boards.
- Jalun Trent notched six points, seven assists, and just one turnover.
- Delaware connected on 11 triples to tie its season best.
- After a game-opening triple from Ray, the Pride ripped off 10-unanswered points to hold a 10-3 advantage at the first break. The Hens brought it back to a three-point game with the Pride up 13-10, before the home team took 17 of the next 26 points to widen the gap to 32-19. UD would cut the deficit to nine points on two occasions but Hofstra held a 44-32 lead at the half.
- The second frame saw the teams trade the first 12 points up to the 15:57 media stoppage. The Pride remained up double digits for most of the second half until Delaware rallied on an 8-0 run over a 2:38 span to close the gap to 61-54 with 8:19 remaining. The Hens extended the run to 13-2 to cut it to four and then traded and one opportunities to get it back to four with 5:25 remaining. The Blue & Gold made it a one-possession game with Drumgoole Jr. triple, but couldn't overcome it.
- Hofstra's 44 points are the most surrendered to start a game this season.
