Williamsburg, Va. - University of Delaware volleyball was defeated in four sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-23, 18-25) on Oct. 12 in a road CAA matchup.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Anna Logan Gillens had a team-high 15 kills and hit .333.
Kirah Johnson recorded 10 blocks and 12 kills.
Lily Rogers had 40 assists, 14 digs, two blocks, and an ace.
Savannah Seemans had nine kills, seven blocks, and 12 digs.
Raina Hughes had seven kills and a solid .278 hitting percentage to go with three blocks and five digs.
Cadence Nguyen had 18 digs and two aces.
Hannah Wright recorded eight digs and an ace.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET

The Tribe jumped out to an early 8-3 lead. Two kills by Seemans jump started a 4-0 for Delaware and got them within a point. Delaware then scored three straight, with blocks by Seemans and Johnson and an ace by Wright, to even the score at 10. They took their first lead at 12-11 on a block by Rogers and Johnson and maintained a 15-14 lead after a kill by Gillens.
W&M retook the lead and stretched it to 24-19. Kills by Gillens and Hughes and a block by Seemans and Johnson cut their deficit to 24-22 before The Tribe took the first set.
Gillens and Seemans had three kills each in the first set. Johnson had five blocks and Rogers had five blocks.

SECOND SET

Delaware led early at 4-3 to begin the second set, but W&M took a 10-5 advantage. Delaware battled back to score six of the next eight to cut their lead down to 12-11. Hughes had two kills and Seemans and Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss had a block.
W&M upped their lead to 18-14 and maintained control the rest of the way.
Johnson and Gillens each had four kills in the set, and Rogers had nine assists. Nguyen had eight digs.

THIRD SET

Delaware staved off elimination on the heels of Gillens and Rogers - with Gillens picking up six kills and hitting .500 for the set and Rogers recording 15 assists, her second 15-assist set of the season.
Delaware took a 4-2 lead on three straight points. Then extended their lead to 9-6 after three kills by Gillens and a kill by Whitfield-Moss.
W&M took the lead back at 15-14, and both teams began exchanging a point each before The Tribe went up 20-19. Delaware took a 21-20 lead, then Gillens put them ahead 22-21, 23-22, and had the set-point to force a fourth set.

FOURTH SET

Another early 3-0 run put UD up 5-2 and a block by Seemans and Johnson had them ahead 8-4. The Tribe cut into Delaware's lead, but two kills by Johnson and a block by her and Rogers had them leading 12-10.
W&M scored five of the next six points to take a 15-13 lead. Delaware scored three in a row on blocks by Whitfield-Moss, Hughes, and Johnson and a kill by Seemans to take back a 17-16 lead. The Tribe scored six straight to pull ahead, and scored the match's final three points.

MATCH NOTES

Delaware's 14 blocks were their most in a CAA match this season.
Johnson now is at 375 career blocks - five shy of tying Niecy Taylor for eight in program history.
Johnson had her third career 10-block game, also done on Oct. 15, 2023 against Stony Brook (13) and Sept. 4, 2022 against UMBC (12).
Rogers increased her career assist total to 1,280. She recorded her second set this season with 15 assists, last done during the first set of UD's match against Campbell on Sept. 22.
Rogers' 14 digs were a new season-high and her most since having 20 against Stony Brook on Oct. 6, 2022.
Seemans upped her career kill total to 975. Her seven blocks today were a new career-high. She had recorded double-digit digs in five straight matches.
Gillens recorded her fourth game this season with at least 15 kills.
Nguyen's 18 digs were her second most in a match this season and her most since having 24 in the season opener against Michigan.
