Football Heads to Monmouth for Road CAA Matchup

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware football team will play a road CAA game when the Blue Hens travel to Monmouth October 5, 2024. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on NBC Sports Philly.

ABOUT THE HENS

Delaware is 4-0 after defeating Bryant, North Carolina A&T, Penn, and Sacred Heart.
Ryan O'Connor leads Delaware's offense with eight passing touchdowns, 882 yards, and a .621 completion percentage. He has also ran for a touchdown.
Zach Marker saw time at quarterback last week, as he threw for three touchdowns and 183 yards.
Four UD running backs have scored touchdowns this season, led by Jo'Nathan Silver and Quincy Watson with three each. Marcus Yarns and Saeed St. Fleur have two each. Yarns also has a receiving touchdown.
Phil Lutz leads Blue Hen receivers with five touchdowns and 325 yards. He has scored a touchdown in every game this season, including two against Penn.
Delaware's offense is fourth in the country in scoring offense (42.0 ppg), fifth in turnovers lost (2), eighth in passing offense (280.3 ypg) and 13th in total offense (436.5 ypg).
The Hens' defense ranks fourth nationally in scoring defense (13.0 ppg), eighth in rushing defense (89.3 ypg) ninth in total defense (276.3 ypg) and 14th in turnovers gained (9).
Gavin Moul's 23 tackles is tops on the team. KT Seay has two interceptions this season.
Delaware is 8-for-9 on fourth down conversions (88.89 percent - sixth in FCS).
UD is 17-for-19 on red zone scores this season, second in the CAA.

ABOUT THE HAWKS

Monmouth enters Saturday at 3-2 on the season and are on a three-game winning streak after wins over Maine (51-22), FIU (45-42) and Fordham (63-21).
The Hawks boast the nation's top offense, averaging 44.2 ppg and 524.2 total ypg. The defense is allowing 33.4 ppg and 422.4 ypg to its opponents.
Derek Robertson has completed 66-percent of his passes and leads all of FCS with 1,676 passing yards, 14 touchdown passes and 335.2 passing ypg.
Sone Ntoh has rushed for a nation-leading 12 touchdowns, including five in Monmouth's win over Fordham. Rodney Nelson is averaging 75 ypg on the ground.
Josh Derry leads the CAA and is third in the country with 117.5 receiving ypg. He has a team-high four touchdown catches, while four other Monmouth receivers have multiple touchdown catches.
Ryan Moran and Deuce Lee lead the Hawks' defense with 29 tackles apiece, while Justin O'Bannon has team-highs of 3.5 TFLs and 1.5 sacks.

SERIES HISTORY

This will be the third meeting between Delaware and Monmouth and UD's first ever trip to West Long Branch. The Blue Hens have won the first two meetings of the series, including a dominant 49-17 victory in 2022, Monmouth's first season in the CAA.
In 2022, Nolan Henderson completed 22-of-28 passes for 323 yards and five touchdowns, tying a program record. He also ran for a score, while Thyrick Pitts caught two scoring grabs. Johnny Buchanan led the defense with 10 tackles while the Hens recorded six sacks including 1.5 by Chase McGowan.
In the first matchup between the two programs, a 42-7 Delaware victory in 2007, the Blue Hens scored 21 points in the first quarter and outgained Monmouth 393-234 on the day. Joe Flacco finished 15-of-19 passing for 215 yards and two touchdowns, while Omar Cuff scored two touchdowns on the ground.
Delaware assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Terence Archer was a four-year linebacker for the Hawks before graduating from Monmouth in 2001. He spent six seasons (2008-13) as Monmouth's wide receivers coach.
