NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware women's tennis team hosted local youth tennis players for an evening of serves, volleys, and fun on Monday evening. In conjunction with USTA, a dozen young athletes spent their sunny afternoon at the field house courts practicing drills alongside the student-athletes, Lucy Harper, and Pablo Montana.
"Today was a great day of tennis, and it is always encouraging to me to have kids from our community to play and learn from our student athletes," head coach Pablo Montana said. "Tennis is a life long sport, and one of our goals is to try to get kids to fall in love with this great game. I am thankful for our student athletes for giving some of their time today to give back, and I am thankful for this partnership we have with the USTA."
From third graders to teens, each kid was able to hone their skills in a fun way as the women's tennis players structures each drill in a kid-friendly fashion.
"Teaching these kids tennis was a lot of fun," senior Samantha Svendsen said. "I believe I can speak for my teammates as well when I say that being on the court with younger players is always inspiring and reminds us why we play the sport."
This annual event is a team favorite after a fall full of tournaments. They are grateful to their community for being a part of their lives as Blue Hens!
