NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware cross country and track & field head coach Josh Hayman announced Thursday afternoon the promotion of Darrell Hill. Hill will now take on the role of Associate Head Coach of the track & field program, continuing his work with the throws event group.
"Promoting coach Hill to associate head coach is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and passion for the Blue Hen track & field program," Hayman said. "He will be instrumental in our team's success, and this new role reflects the trust and confidence we have in him to continue driving our program forward. I am proud to have his leadership on our staff."
Hill recently completed his first season with the Blue Hens, during which he helped coach Delaware to several new school records and continued the legacy of being a dominant opponent throughout the East region.
"Thank you to Chrissi [Rawak] and coach Hayman for entrusting me with a larger role here at Delaware," Hill said. "I am excited to continue laying the foundation of a championship culture with the Blue Hens."
In his first year with the Blue & Gold, Hill served as the assistant coach primarily working with the throws event group and multi student-athletes. During the outdoor season, he assisted in developing multi-event athlete Alicia Lehman-Woodyard, who earned the heptathlon bronze medal and All-CAA honors at the 2024 CAA Outdoor Championships. Lehman-Woodyard currently holds the school record in the heptathlon.
Hill also coached three student-athletes—Kosie Nkwonta, Mackenzie Stephens, and Sarah Sharp—who made significant marks in UD's history books. He helped guide the 2023-24 squad to a ninth-place finish at the CAA Outdoor Championships and saw two student-athletes, Halima Scott and Sarah Daniels, advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships First Rounds.
The Blue Hens have also enjoyed success in the classroom as a total of 71 cross country/track & field student-athletes have been named to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll since Hill's arrival to Newark.
