RICHMOND, Va. - The Coastal Athletic Association has announced their postseason honors for women's soccer on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
For the University of Delaware women's soccer program, it received seven total accolades, including goalkeeper of the year, one athlete on the first team and second team, and two athletes on the third team and rookie team. It is the first time since 2019 where the Blue Hens have had six athletes receive all-conference honors, along with a player of the year award.
Headlining the accolades is goalkeeper Kyla Burns, who was named the conference's goalkeeper of the year and was named to the first team. Along with Burns, Constanze Viehmann was named to the second team, Carly Binn and Caitlin St. Leger were named to the third team, and Brooke Vogel and Olivia Bley were named to the all-rookie team.
Burns has been a key piece on the Blue Hens defense over the past two seasons. This season, she ranks third in the conference in total saves at 72, fourth in minutes played at 1485, fifth in goals against average at 0.97 and in save percentage at .818. In conference play, Burns had six solo shutouts, allowing just six goals in 10 conference games, and allowed just two goals in five road conference contests.
Last season, Burns led the country in save percentage at .911 and currently holds the program record for save percentage in a career at .854. She earned All-CAA accolades in the preseason and was a third team all-CAA selection last year.
Burns is the first Blue Hen to ever receive the conference goalkeeper of the year since the award was added in 2019, and is the first Blue Hen since Olivia Schuck to receive a major conference award when she was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year back in 2019. She is also the first Blue Hen to receive first team honors since Sara D'Appolonia and Schuck did back in 2019.
For the second season in a row, Viehmann was named to the all-conference team. She appeared and started in 16 games for the Blue Hens this season. Viehmann ranks sixth on the Blue Hens roster in minutes played at 1373. In 15 of her 16 games, she played in all 90 minutes. She is a part of a defense that allowed six goals in 10 conference games, including two goals on the road. Viehmann also scored the game-winning goal against Hampton and was named the conference defensive player of the week on Sept. 30. The junior from Landenburg, Germany is the first Blue Hen since Lauren Krinsky to be named to the second team. Last season, she was named to the CAA third team.
Binn earned her first postseason honors as a member of the Blue Hens. She appeared and started in all 18 games for the Blue Hens, playing in every minute of every game, leading to 1620 total minutes played. She is one of four athletes to play in every minute of every game, and is tied for second in the conference in total minutes played. She is a part of a defense that allowed six goals in 10 conference games, including two goals on the road. Binn was also credited with two assists on the season. Prior to her time with the Blue Hens, Binn earned Second Team American East All-Conference honors with UAlbany.Â
St. Leger earned her first postseason conference accolades in her Blue Hens career. She appeared and started in all 18 games, and is third on the team in minutes played at 1553. She leads the team in points with eight, is tied for the team lead in goals with three, and tied for third in assists at two. The senior from Bear, Delaware had a multi-goal game against La Salle and scored the game winning goal against William & Mary. She also had an assist against George Mason and against Campbell. St. Leger earned preseason all-conference honors in 2023.Â
Vogel and Bley earn conference all-rookie honors, making it the fourth year in a row where the Blue Hens land an athlete on the all-rookie team.Â
Vogel played in all 18 games, and made 11 starts. She led all first year athletes on the Blue Hens, and was tied for the team lead, in goals with three. Vogel's first point of her career came against Richmond back on Sept. 1 where she was credited with an assist. She scored her first career goal against George Mason. The first year athlete from Mickleton, N.J. scored one of the biggest goals on the season against Campbell, deflecting a St. Leger ball to the front right corner of the net with less than two minutes remaining in the game to defeat the Camels 1-0.Â
Bley had an impactful first season with the Blue Hens. She appeared in all 18 games, making 12 starts, and is one of two first year athletes to play in over 1000 minutes (1018). She scored her first career goal against George Mason, was credited with the assist on the game winning goal against William & Mary, and scored a second goal against Stony Brook.Â
