NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware volleyball defeated UNCW in straight sets (25-22, 26-24, 25-19) on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024. They have won four of their first five CAA matches to start the season and 19 of their previous 20 dating back to last season.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss had a match-high 12 kills and hit .364. She also had five blocks.
Lily Rogers had 34 assists, five digs, three kills, and a block.
Raina Hughes hit .308 with five kills and three blocks.
Savannah Seemans had 11 digs, seven kills, two blocks, and an ace.
Kirah Johnson had nine kills and three blocks.
Anna Logan Gillens had eight kills.
Taylor Holly had 11 digs.
Cadence Nguyen had 10 digs and three assists.
Hannah Wright had seven digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET

UNCW jumped ahead 7-4, but four straight points by UD, with kills by Hughes, Whitfield-Moss, and Seemans gave them an 8-7 lead. Delaware then used a 5-0 run to go up 13-8.
UNCW took a 17-14 lead. Delaware scored five of the next seven points and tied the set at 18 after back-to-back kills by Anna Logan Gillens. With UNCW leading 22-21, Delaware scored the final four points of the set to claim it.
Gillens had five kills in the opening set, while Rogers had 12 assists. Holly had eight digs.

SECOND SET

Set two had 11 ties and four lead changes. Delaware began to pull away with a 4-0 run to take a 16-11 lead and held a 19-15 lead.
UNCW tied the set at 24-24. Whitfield-Moss and Seemans had back-to-back kills to put Delaware ahead 2-0.
Whitfield-Moss had four kills in the set, and Rogers had 11 assists.

THIRD SET

Delaware maintained control of the set early and used a 4-0 run to go up 15-9. An ace by Rogers and an attack error gave Delaware a 21-15 lead.
UNCW cut UD's lead to 22-19, but the Blue Hens scored the set's and the match's last three points to secure the win.
Whitfield-Moss had five kills in the final set, with Rogers recording 11 assists.

Delaware held UNCW to a .139 hitting percentage.
Rogers has 1,196 career assists.
Johnson now has 362 career blocks.
Seemans upped her career kill total to 956 and ace total to 180.
