NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware volleyball defeated UNCW in four sets (25-12, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20) on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024. They have won five of their first six CAA matches to start the season and 20 of their previous 21 dating back to last season. The win was head coach Kimberly Lambert's 50th at Delaware in just her 70th game.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Lily Rogers had 44 assists, seven digs, two aces, two blocks, and three kills.
Savannah Seemans had a match-high 21 digs with 10 kills, five aces, and two blocks.
Raina Hughes had nine kills with a .467 hitting percentage and four blocks.
Kirah Johnson had 10 digs, three aces, and three blocks.
Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss had 12 kills and five blocks.
Cadence Nguyen had eight digs and five assists.
Hannah Wright had six digs.
Emily Chrysogelos had three kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET

Delaware dominated set one with a .370 hitting percentage compared to .037 for UNCW. Seemans had four kills and Rogers had nine assists.
UNCW was leading 7-6 to begin the match, but a 5-0 Delaware run put them ahead. Delaware then ended the set by scoring the 14 of the final 19 points.
Johnson had a kill and an ace for back-to-back points to help UD go ahead 19-10. Hughes then had back-to-back kills to put the Hens up 23-11 before claiming the set.

SECOND SET

UNCW took the lead first and stayed in front until Delaware used a 4-0 to equal the score at 16. Seemans had an ace coming out of a timeout to cap off the run.
The Seahawks used a 3-0 run to retake the lead, but UD scored four straight and used another 4-0 run to go up 24-20. Hughes ended the set with a kill.
Delaware hit .303 in the set and held UNCW to a .121 hitting percentage. Whitfield-Moss and Anna Logan Gillens both had four kills in the set and Rogers had 10 assists. Seemans had seven digs.

THIRD SET

UNCW again led for much of the first half of the set before Delaware used a 4-0 to 15-14. Rogers and Whitfield-Moss both had a block and Johnson, Whitfield-Moss, and Gillens each had a kill.
With UNCW leading 20-18, UD scored three straight to retake the lead and were ahead 24-23. UNCW scored the final three points to force a fourth set.
Johnson and Whitfield-Moss both had four kills and Rogers added 14 assists.

FOURTH SET

UNCW quickly went up 9-3, but Delaware cut the deficit to 10-8 highlighted by two kills by Emily Chrysogelos.
UD fell behind 16-12, but four straight points evened the score. Seemans had an ace and kill and Chrysogelos and Rogers each had kills. They took their first lead at 19-18 and then scored six of the last seven points to claim the set, 25-20, and win the match.
Johnson and Chrysogelos had three kills each and Rogers had 11 assists.

MATCH NOTES

Delaware held UNCW to a .118 hitting percentage.
Seemans upped her career kill total to 966 and ace total to 185.
Seemans' 21 digs tied a season-high, last done in UD's season opener against Michigan. She has recorded at least 10 digs in four straight matches and in 10 matches this season. Her five aces were also a season-high.
Rogers has 1,240 career assists. In her last five games, she is averaging 13.06 assists per set over her last five games.
Johnson now has 365 career blocks, eighth most in program history.
Hughes' four blocks were a season-high.
Whitfield-Moss has had double-digit kills in five-straight matches. She had at least five blocks in back-to-back matches for the first time in her career.
Chrysogelos' three kills were a career-high.
Delaware has won 20 of their last 21 CAA matches dating back to last season.
Lambert won her 50th career game since becoming head coach at Delaware. She became the fastest coach in program history to reach 50 wins, needing just 70 games. Delaware Hall of Famer Barbara Viera needed 76 games to reach 50 wins.
