Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Eight After Weekend Sweep of Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. - University of Delaware volleyball defeated Hampton in straight sets (25-12, 27-25, 25-14) for the second straight day to cap off the road portion of UD's regular season schedule. The Blue Hens have won eight straight matches, tied for the longest active streak in the CAA. Delaware will enter the final week of the season in a four-way tie for first place in the conference. Delaware has also won 12 consecutive sets.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Kirah Johnson had a match-high 12 kills and hit .800 with three blocks. She also added an ace.
- Lily Rogers had 40 assists, five digs, and three blocks.
- Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss had 11 kills with a .333 hitting percentage and three blocks.
- Raina Hughes hit .500 with nine kills and four blocks.
- Anna Logan Gillens had eight kills.
- Savannah Seemans recorded four kills, five digs, and an ace.
- Cadence Nguyen had 17 digs.
- Hannah Wright contributed eight digs and her first career kill.
- Taylor Holly recorded three aces and three digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- An 8-0 run helped Delaware gain control of the first set, as it took a 12-4 lead. Two kills by Hughes and Whitfield-Moss and an ace by Holly highlighted the run.
- Johnson put Delaware up by 10 at 18-8 with a kill, then UD ended the set with a 6-0 run to go up 1-0 in the match. Hughes had two kills down the stretch, and Holly had another ace.
- Hughes and Whitfield-Moss each had five kills in the opening set, and Rogers tied a season-best for assists in a set with 17. She also had 17 against Stony Brook on Nov. 3. Nguyen had seven digs.
SET TWO
- Four straight points, highlighted by back-to-back blocks from Johnson and Hughes, put UD up 6-3. Hampton got going in the middle portion of the set, and eventually led 18-16.
- Delaware scored six of the next eight points to go up 22-20. Hampton battled back to take a 25-24 advantage, but the Blue Hens scored the final three points after a timeout to claim set two. Seemans and Johnson had the final two kills of the set.
- Johnson had six kills in the set, and Rogers had 14 assists.
SET THREE
- Delaware took a 20-9 lead by scoring 13 of the next 15 points after it was tied at seven. Six different players had a kill during the stretch, including two from Johnson. Rogers had three blocks during the run and Wright picked up her first career kill.
- UD scored five of the last six points to end the match. Hughes had a kill and a block and Holly had an ace to help complete a weekend sweep.
- Whitfield-Moss and Johnson each had three kills as Delaware hit .370 in the set. Nguyen added six more digs.
MATCH NOTES
- Johnson recorded the sixth game in program history with at least double-digit kills and an .800 hitting percentage, and had the ninth best hitting percentage ever in program history in a single-match.
- Johnson joined Donna Methvin (Oct. 22, 1980 vs James Madison, Nov. 12, 1982 vs Rider), Sue Sowter (Oct. 1, 1982 vs Western Maryland), Allison Hunter (Oct. 13, 2000 vs New Hampshire), and Karen Kunslelman (Oct. 20 1995 vs Lehigh) as the only players in program history with at least 10 kills and a hitting percentage of at least .800. Johnson's 12 kills were the second most of those five games, trailing only Kunslelman's 25.
- Johnson is also the seventh player in Division I this season with a hitting percentage of at least .800 on at least 15 attempts.
- Johnson hit .750 for the weekend with 22 kills. Over Delaware's eight-match streak, she is hitting .368 with 3.45 kills per set.
- Over her last 15 matches, Rogers is averaging 11.18 assists per set.
- Hughes hit .517 for the weekend with 16 kills and eight blocks in six sets.
- Seemans recorded her 191st career ace.
- Nguyen is averaging 4.24 digs per set in her last 10 matches.
- Wright's kill was the first of her career.
- Holly's three aces were a career-best.
- Delaware is 4-0 all-time against Hampton, having never dropped a set.
- Over Delaware's current eight-match win streak, the Blue Hens are 24-5 in sets.
- Delaware has won 12 sets in a row, UD's longest streak of the season. UD won 14 in a row during a stretch in October last season.
- Delaware hit .350 for the weekend and held Hampton to a hitting percentage of .097.
