Volleyball Dominates Elon for CAA-Best Ninth Win in a Row

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware volleyball defeated Elon in straight sets (25-7, 25-11, 25-15) on Friday, Nov. 15. The win gives the Blue Hens nine-straight victories, the longest active streak in the CAA, and Delaware has won 15 consecutive sets. Delaware did not trail at any point during the match.Â

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Savannah Seemans had a stellar performance with 10 kills on a .556 hitting percentage, 19 digs, six aces, and two blocks.Â
- Anna Logan Gillens had 13 kills and three blocks.Â
- Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss contributed nine kills with a .571 hitting percentage.
- Kirah Johnson tallied six kills and six blocks while hitting .333.
- Lily Rogers recorded 30 kills, nine digs, and three aces.Â
- Cadence Nguyen added 14 digs and five assists.
- Hannah Wright had seven digs.Â
- Taylror Holly finished with five digs and an ace.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Delaware set the tone right away with a 6-0 run to start the match. Seemans had two aces and Gillens had three kills before a timeout was called by Elon. Four straight points eventually got the lead up to 12-2, and another 4-0 run gave the Blue Hens a 21-5 lead.Â
- UD scored four of the last five points to claim the set 25-7.Â
- Delaware hit .481 in the first and held Elon to a -.114 hitting percentage. Gillens had five kills and Seemans had four.Â
SET TWO
- Delaware raced out to the first five points of the set. UDÂ had a stretch of scoring 11 of 15 points to eventually lead 17-7.Â
- A kill by Whitfield-Moss and Gillens upped the lead to 19-8, and another kill by Whitfield-Moss and a Rogers ace made it 21-10. Gillens, Seemans, and Whitfield-Moss all had kills down the stretch to give Delaware a 25-11 set win.
- Whitfield-Moss, Johnson, and Gillens all had four kills in the set, and Seemans added in three. Rogers had 14 assists as Delaware hit .464.
SET THREE
- Seemans delivered two aces early in the third set, helping Delaware to a 4-0 lead. Another 4-0 run pushed the score to 8-1.
- Whitfield-Moss and Gillens teamed up for a block and added key kills to extend the lead to 20-10. Rogers contributed another ace, while Gillens and Seemans added late kills to clinch the match with a 25-15 set victory.
- Gillens had four kills in the third, and Seemans and Whitfield-Moss each had three. Seemans also had eight digs.Â
MATCH NOTES
- Delaware's 25-7 set one victory was its largest of the season and the largest set victory since defeating Loyola 25-7 in set two on Sept. 15, 2015.Â
- Delaware has won 15 sets in a row. It is its longest streak since recording a program record 17 set victories in a row from Sept. 14-25, 2007.Â
- During UD's nine match win streak, they are 27-5 in sets.Â
- Seemans' six aces was a season-best by a Blue Hen. She also recorded her sixth double-double of the season.
- Seemans now has 197 career aces, tying Sue Landefeld for fourth most in program history.Â
- Seemans' 19 digs were a season-best by a UD player in a three-set match.Â
- Johnson recorded her eighth game this season with at least five total blocks. She now has 421 career total blocks, fourth most in UD program history.Â
- Rogers recorded her 13th consecutive match in which she has averaged at least 10 assists per set. She is averaging 11.17 assists per set over that span. Â
- Kristyn Membreno made her Delaware debut during the match.Â
