Men’s Basketball Staves Off Iona Comeback to Win, 64-58

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – A late comeback effort was held off by the University of Delaware men's basketball defense Tuesday evening as the Blue Hens (2-1) defeated Iona (0-3), 64-58.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware held Iona to 30.1 percent (22-of-73) overall and 18.2 percent (4-of-22) from three, including 21.1 percent (8-of-38) from the field and 7.7 percent (1-of-13) from long range in the opening half.
- The Hens registered six blocks as a team.
- Niels Lane and Tahron Allen each finished with 14 points, with Lane adding six rebounds and a career-high four steals.
- Cavan Reilly contributed nine points and tied his career best six rebounds.
- Izaiah Pasha and John Camden tallied eight points apiece.
- The first 8:31 was a defensive battle with the Hens holding a flights 9-6 lead. Both teams were shooting below 25-percent from the field and combined for eight turnovers, led by the Gaels' five. The Hens more than doubled their offensive output by the next media stoppage and held a 22-13 lead after back-to-back triples from Lane. Delaware would cruise into the locker room with its largest lead thus far, 30-18.
- The home team used an 8-2 advantage to force a Delaware timeout with 16:38 on the clock in the second half. Nearly trading points the rest of the way, the Gaels would regain the lead 56-55 on the triple with 1:34 left. The Hens regained control and tallied a 9-2 advantage the rest of the way.
- Macon Emory scored his first career points on a field goal in the first half.
- Martin Ingelsby moves into sole possession of second place all-time with 133 career wins.
