Women’s Basketball Battles Temple

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team opened its home season Tuesday evening in front of 1,199 fans inside Bob Carpenter Center. The Blue Hens (0-3) took on Temple (1-1) in a matchup marking exactly 11 years since their last meeting in Newark. Despite a strong outing from Michelle Ojo and Chloe Wilson, the Blue Hens dropped a 67-56 decision, extending their skid to three.

The Blue Hens will wrap up their two-game homestand next Tuesday, Nov. 19, with an Education Day matchup against Colgate at 11 a.m. in the Bob Carpenter Center. The game will be broadcast live on FloCollege.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Ojo led the Blue Hens off the bench, matching her career-high with 15 points on 7-for-11 shooting, along with four rebounds and a block.
- Wilson notched a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing a season-high-tying 12 rebounds, while also contributing three assists, a block, and a steal.
- Delaware shot 36.8 percent (21-57) from the field, 23.8 percent (5-21) from three-point range, and 50 percent (9-18) from the free-throw line.
- The Blue Hens pulled down 40 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive end, converting those into five second-chance points.
- UD led in blocks (2-1), points in the paint (28-22), and bench points (27-16), while scoring 16 points off 19 Temple turnovers.
First Quarter: Temple 12, Delaware 4
- Temple opened the game with a 9-0 run, holding Delaware scoreless until Tara Cousins broke the drought with a jumper at the 4:52 mark.
- The Owls maintained control to end the quarter up 12-4.
- The Blue Hens narrowed the gap to three early in the second quarter, sparked by consecutive baskets from Cousins and Ella Wanzer.
- However, Temple responded with an 11-0 run, extending their lead to double digits.
- Delaware managed to cut the deficit to nine by halftime, but the Owls went into the break leading 33-22.
- Delaware rallied in the third, getting within three points on a Wanzer three-pointer at 3:10.
- The Blue Hens stayed within striking distance, trailing by just five after an Ande'a Cherisier free throw with 1:49 left.
- Temple closed the quarter on a 6-2 run to take a 48-39 advantage into the fourth.
- Temple maintained control in the final period, pushing their lead to as many as 16 points midway through.
- Wilson and Cousins combined for Delaware's last five points, trimming the margin to nine, but a late layup from Temple's Tiarra East sealed the 67-56 win.
