Balanced Scoring Propels Women’s Basketball to Home Win Over Colgate, 88-82

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team concluded its two-game homestand on Tuesday morning with a thrilling 88-82 victory over Colgate. Playing in front of a sold-out crowd of 4,631 enthusiastic fans at the Bob Carpenter Center, the Blue Hens secured their first win of the season, improving to 1-3 while dropping the Raiders to 3-2.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware showcased balanced scoring, with six players hitting double figures, led by a career performance from Jiya Perry.
- Perry tallied a career-high 14 points (6-8 FG, 2-2 3FG) and tied her career-best with seven rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench.
- Ande'a Cherisier paced the team with 17 points (8-11 FG), while Tara Cousins added 16 points (7-9 FG) and a team-high five assists.
- Ella Wanzer contributed 12 points, shooting 4-7 from beyond the arc, and set career and game highs with four steals.
- Michelle Ojo chipped in 11 points and five rebounds in 12 minutes, while Rebecca Demeke rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
- The Blue Hens were efficient on offense, shooting:
- 58.33% (35-60) from the field
- 47.37% (9-19) from three-point range
- 75.00% (9-12) from the free-throw line
- Delaware also dominated key categories:
- Outscored Colgate in the paint (40-30) and off the bench (27-15).
- Turned 10 offensive rebounds into 20 second-chance points.
- Scored 11 points off 14 Raider turnovers.
First Quarter: Colgate 26, Delaware 22
- The Raiders opened with a 7-2 lead, but Delaware responded with an 8-2 run ignited by back-to-back triples from Demeke and Wanzer to take a brief 10-9 edge.
- Colgate regained control late in the quarter, outscoring the Blue Hens 17-12 to lead by four at the buzzer.
- The Blue Hens erupted for 27 points in the second quarter, led by Cousins, who scored 11 points on perfect 5-5 shooting.
- A layup by Demeke at 4:20 sparked a 15-7 Delaware run to take a two-point lead into halftime.
- The teams traded blows, with the Raiders edging ahead late in the quarter.
- Perry's layup at 1:33 tied the game at 67, but Colgate ended the period on a 5-1 run to take a four-point lead into the final frame.
- Delaware trailed for much of the quarter until a Cousins jumper at 3:45 ignited a decisive 12-1 run, sealing the Blue Hens' victory.
- Delaware now leads the all-time series against Colgate, 2-0.
- This marks the first time since Feb. 5, 2023, against Northeastern, that six Blue Hens scored in double digits in a home win.
- UD saw a notable increase in its Education Day attendance, growing from 4,423 participants to an impressive 4,631.
