Volleyball Wins Fifth Straight Match in 3-1 Victory Over Stony Brook

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware volleyball defeated Stony Brook in four sets (15-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22) to win its fifth consecutive match. Delaware continues to keep pace at the top of the CAA standings with the win, as each of the top four teams still sit at tied with three losses. Kirah Johnson recorded her 400th career block during the match, becoming the sixth player in program history to reach the mark.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Savannah Seemans led Delaware with a match-high 15 kills. She also had three blocks and seven digs.
- Johnson had 12 kills and a match-high eight blocks.
- Anna Logan Gillens had 13 kills.
- Lily Rogers recorded 40 assists, 10 digs, five blocks, and three kills.
- Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss had six kills and five blocks.
- Raina Hughes had four kills and three blocks.
- Cadence Nguyen recorded 19 digs and four assists.
- Taylor Holly had 12 digs.
- Hannah Wright had four aces and 11 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Delaware held a 7-6 lead, but Stony Brook took control the rest of the way, taking a 19-9 lead before closing it out.
- Gillens had four kills in the set.
SET TWO
- The second set featured nine ties and two lead changes. Delaware increased their lead to 13-9 after kills from Hughes, Johnson, and Seemans and a block from Johnson.
- Stony Brook tied the score at 15 and took a 17-16 lead. UD went back in front before Stony Brook tied it again at 22, UD scored the final three points of the set to even the match.
- Seemans had four kills in the set and Rogers had 11 assists. Nguyen had seven digs.
SET THREE
- Stony Brook went up 6-0 and 7-1 right away to begin the third, but Wright had two aces and Seemans had two kills to help pull Delaware within a point.
- UD evened the score and took the lead for the first time at 14-13 by scoring three-straight on an error, a block from Whitfield-Moss and Dylan Norris, and a kill from Seemans. Stony Brook went back ahead 18-15, but four points in a row on kills and blocks from Seemans and Johnson and Wright's third ace of the set put them up 19-18. The Blue Hens scored the final six points of the set on kills from Seemans, Johnson, and Gillens and blocks from Rogers and Johnson.
- Seemans had six kills in the set, and Rogers had 10 assists. Holly recorded seven digs.
- Another ace by Wright and a kill from Rogers put Delaware up 5-2 early. Back-to-back kills from Johnson and Rogers put them up 15-11.
- Stony Brook tied it at 15 and took a 17-16 lead. UD pulled away late by scoring five straight on a kill after two kills from Johnson and Seemans put them up 24-20. Johnson then ended the match with a kill.
- Johnson had five digs and Rogers had 13 assists.
MATCH NOTES
- Delaware had won five matches in a row and are now 8-1 at home this season.
- Delaware is 13-1 in their last 14 home matches dating back to last season.
- Johnson became the sixth player in program history with at least 400 blocks. She joined Karen Kunselman (591), Paige Erickson (464), Emily Rome (456), Jennifer Wanner (417), and Jerelyn Lawson (416). She has 405 for her career. She is also the 46th active Division I player with 400+ blocks.
- Rogers had recorded at least 40 assists in three-straight matches, and is at 793 for the season.
- Rogers had averaged 10.94 assists per set over her last nine matches.
- Seemans' 15 kills were her most since having 17 in the season opener against Michigan on August 30.
- Gillens has double digit kills in five straight matches and six of her last seven.
- Whitfield-Moss recorded sixth match this season with at least five blocks and her second straight.
- Nguyen had her third straight match with at least 15 digs. She has averaged 4.17 digs per set over her last seven matches.
- Wright had a career-best four aces. She has also recorded at least 10 digs in three matches in a row.
- Holly has had double-digit digs in two of her last three matches.
