Men’s Basketball Drops Season Opener to Bucknell

NEWARK, Del. – After leading for the first 56 minutes of the game, the University of Delaware men's basketball team fell to the Bucknell Bison, 85-73, in the season opener Monday.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Erik Timko led the Blue Hens with 20 points on a 7-of-11 evening. He also brought in four rebounds.
- John Camden dropped a career-high 19 points. He connected on 8-of-15 and added three boards and a pair of blocks.
- Niels Lane contributed 16 points, going 6-of-9 from the field. He recorded a team-high five rebounds.
- Timko scored the first points of the season for the Hens on a three ball, before Lane hit back-to-back shots from deep to jump out to an early 9-2 lead. Delaware started the game 4-for-5 from the field, all from long range. By the 12-minute mark of the first half, the Hens had a 26-14 lead and were shooting 71-percent from the floor, including 6-for-7 from deep. A steal by Trent Middleton Jr. led to a fast break alley-oop finished off by Lane to make it 34-24 with just under eight minutes to play in the opening half. The Hens took a 46-37 lead into the locker room, as the Bison finished the last 3:19 without a field goal.
- Bucknell began the second half on a 12-4 run to cut the Blue & Gold's lead to one point. The Bison tied the game at 57 after a three ball from Josh Bascoe with 11:33 remaining, the first time the game was even since the opening tip. Timko hit a three to give the Hens the lead back, 60-57 with just under 10 minutes to play. A floater by Elvin Edmonds IV gave Bucknell its first lead of the game at 73-71. After Delaware tied it at 73, Bucknell finished the game on a 12-0 run over the last 2:08.
- Izaiah Pasha became the first freshman to start a season opener for the Blue & Gold since Kevin Anderson and Chyree Walker on November 10, 2017 at Richmond.
- Six newcomers made their Delaware debut: Tahron Allen, Camden, Kevin Kogbara, Middleton Jr., Pasha, and Timko.
- Gabe Moss also made his Delaware debut, after not playing in a meaningful basketball game in 1,021 days dating back to an injury his senior year of high school.
- It was Timko's 80th career game in double figures and his 52nd time scoring 20 or more points.
