Men’s Basketball Uses Late Push to Defeat Robert Morris, 81-77

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's basketball team defeated the Robert Morris Colonials, 81-77, Thursday night to earn its first win of the season. The four-point victory marked the second of its kind in as many seasons for the Blue Hens (1-1) against the Colonials (0-2).

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Niels Lane tallied 19 points to lead the Hens on 8-of-12 shooting. He added seven boards and a career-high seven steals.
- Trent Middleton Jr. posted 13 points on 3-for-4 from the field and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
- Erik Timko and Cavan Reilly joined Lane and Middleton in double figures, as Timko recorded 12 points and Reilly scored 10 points.
- At the first media timeout, the Blue & Gold and Colonials were knotted up at 11 with Robert Morris missing its last five field goals. An 8-0 run in a 54-second stretch for the Colonials led to a Delaware timeout down 22-13. UD used a 16-1 run, including 14-straight points, over 3:06, to take a 32-28 lead. Delaware ended the first half up 45-43, making five of its last seven attempts.
- The second half saw a slow start for both teams, making a combined 3-for-17 shots at the first media stoppage. After Robert Morris took a 53-48 lead, Delaware used a 6-0 run, spanning 3:03 to go up by one. An 8-0 run that featured a Middleton Jr. three followed by an-and-one layup from Lane gave the Hens a 64-60 lead with just under 10 minutes to play. At the under-four-minute media timeout, Delaware led 76-72 after another 6-0 run. With 35 seconds on the clock, Middleton Jr. knocked down a pair of free throws to increase the Hens lead to 79-75. Down three with seven seconds remaining, Robert Morris missed its game-tying attempt to give the Hens the victory.
- Macon Emory made his collegiate debut after not appearing in the season opener. He and his brother, Houston Emory, are one of 17 sets of brothers to play on the same team this season.
- This win marked Martin Ingelsby's 132nd victory of his career, tying him with Monté Ross' for second-most in program history.
- Since 2016-17, the Hens are 49-27 in contests decided by five points or less.
- Kevin Kogbara's five points were the first of his NCAA career.
