ABOUT THE HENS
- Delaware opened its 2024-25 season with a 78-66 road loss to George Washington on Monday evening.
- The Blue Hens were led by four players scoring in double figures: Alieghya Bartholomew (14 points), Tara Cousins (13 points), Rebecca Demeke (12 points), and Ande'a Cherisier (11 points).
- In her Delaware debut, Bartholomew also contributed five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
- As of Wednesday, Nov. 6, Bartholomew leads the nation in free throw percentage (100%, 163 players tied) and three point percentage (100%, 38 players tied).
- Entering game two of the 2024-25 season, coach Jenkins returns for her third season at Delaware, holding a 27-35 career record. She brings back eight players from the 2023-24 squad, preserving over 50 percent of the team's scoring, and adds five talented newcomers for a 13-player roster ready to elevate the program.
- Key returning players include Sydney Boone, Cousins, Cherisier, Demeke, and Chloe Wilson. Graduate transfer Ella Wanzer from Binghamton and junior transfer Bartholomew from Gulf Coast State join the team, each looking to make an immediate impact.
- Delaware was projected to finish sixth in the CAA Preseason Coaches' Poll. Graduate student Wilson earned a spot on the Preseason All-CAA Second Team, while teammates Cousins and Cherisier received All-CAA Honorable Mentions.
- The Blue Hens' non-conference schedule includes four home games, six road games, and a competitive Thanksgiving tournament in New Orleans. The 12-game slate features matchups against George Washington (Nov. 4), La Salle (Nov. 9), Temple (Nov. 12), Colgate (Nov. 11), Providence (Nov. 24), Big Easy Classic (Nov. 29-30), Delaware State (Dec. 7), Villanova (Dec. 11), Navy (Dec. 19), Old Dominion (Dec. 22), and Harvard (Dec. 30).
- Captains for the 2024-25 season are Boone, Cousins, and Wanzer, who will lead the Blue Hens both on and off the court.
- La Salle dropped its season opener at Maine, 65-51, Monday morning.
- Ayisse Magassa led the Explorers with 13 points, three rebounds, and three steals, while Joan Quinn added 12 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
- Aryss Macktoon posted a game-high five steals, and Jolene Armendariz led the team with nine rebounds.
- The Explorers enter the 2024-25 season with a revamped roster, featuring 13 new additions, including eight transfers from Division I, JUCO, and community colleges, along with five freshmen.
- La Salle returns only two players from last year's squad: graduate student Jolene Armendariz, who appeared in 29 games last season and averaged 6.2 points per game, and sophomore Aryss Macktoon, who averaged 10.8 points in her four appearances before an injury.
- Joining the team are familiar faces from Division I programs, including Ashleigh Connor, a redshirt sophomore from A-10 member Saint Louis, and graduate Mackenzie Daleba, from last year's nationally ranked Fairfield Stags.
- Both teams dropped their season opener on Monday and will be looking to get one into the win column on Saturday
- La Salle leads the series with a 16-10 record, including an 8-4 advantage at home.
- However, the Blue Hens have momentum, having won the last three matchups, including a 59-48 victory on the road on Nov. 28, 2010.
