Women’s Basketball Battles La Salle

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team concluded a two-game road trip in Philadelphia Saturday afternoon, facing off against La Salle (1-1) inside John E. Glaser Arena. Despite a strong third-quarter effort, the Blue Hens (0-2) fell short in a 68-54 setback to the Explorers.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
First Quarter: La Salle 23, Delaware 14
The Blue Hens return to the First State for its home opener against Temple (0-1) Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Bob Carpenter Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on FloCollege.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Rebecca Demeke led Delaware's scoring with a season-high 16 points, shooting 50 percent (6-12) from the field. She added three steals and two rebounds to her stat line.
- Chloe Wilson was close to a double-double, recording nine points and a season-best 12 rebounds.
- As a team, Delaware shot 31.7 percent (20-63) from the field, 21.1 percent (4-19) from beyond the arc, and 71.4 percent (10-14) from the free throw line.
- The Blue Hens collected 36 rebounds and added 13 points off second-chance opportunities.
First Quarter: La Salle 23, Delaware 14
- Delaware started strong with a 4-0 lead after Tara Cousins' free throw and a three-pointer from Ella Wanzer.
- Demeke's layup at 6:48 put Delaware up 6-5, but La Salle responded with an 18-8 run over the final 6:19 to end the quarter with a 23-14 lead.
- The Blue Hens fought to close the gap, coming within six points on two occasions, highlighted by Wilson's three-point play with 5:56 left (28-22).
- However, a 10-0 run by La Salle capped the quarter, sending Delaware into halftime trailing 38-22.
- Delaware had its best performance in the third quarter, outscoring La Salle 18-13.
- Alieghya Bartholomew's layup at the 9:24 mark sparked a 14-2 Blue Hen run, narrowing the Explorers' lead to 40-36 with 5:15 remaining.
- Demeke led the charge, scoring seven of Delaware's points during this stretch.
- La Salle answered with an 11-4 run to regain a double-digit lead, 51-40, heading into the final period.
- La Salle extended its lead to a game-high 16 points, 58-42, with 7:12 left.
- Although Delaware cut the deficit to within 10 points, it wasn't enough to turn the game around, resulting in the team's second loss of the season.
- With the loss, Delaware's three-game winning streak over La Salle ended, with the Explorers now holding a 17-10 lead in the all-time series.
