Women’s Basketball Allows Fourth Fewest Points in Program History in 73-26 Win Over Delaware State

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team made defensive history in a 73-26 win over Delaware State on Saturday afternoon inside the Bob Carpenter Center. The 26 points allowed are the fourth fewest in program history. The Blue Hens have now won two games in a row, jumping up to 3-5, while the Hornets fall to 3-6.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- The two points allowed by Delaware in the first quarter are the fewest in school history (women's basketball transitioned to quarters in 2015-16).
- The 10 points allowed in the first half are tied for the lowest in the history of the Bob Carpenter Center for a women's game, with the last time being against UNCW on February 3, 2017.
- Rebecca Demeke set career-highs in points (21) and steals (4). Demeke went 8-of-17 from the field including five makes from beyond the arc.
- Tara Cousins dished a career-high 10 assists to go along with eight points. She's the first Hen to register double-digit assists since 2022.
- Chloe Wilson put up her second consecutive double-double and 18th of her career with 13 points and 12 boards.
- Ande'a Cherisier recorded 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting to go with seven rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hens led 7-0 at the first media timeout, holding Delaware State scoreless through the first 5:08. UD dominated the first quarter, taking a 16-2 lead into the break. Cherisier led the Hens with 11 points in the first frame.
- Midway through the second quarter, the Blue & Gold held a 25-6 advantage. The first half finished with the Hens leading 39-10. The Hornets were held to 17-percent from the field and 0-of-9 from three.
- UD took an 8-0 run into the third quarter media timeout, corresponding to a 47-13 lead. Delaware finished the quarter with a 9-4 advantage to lead 56-17 after three.
- In similar fashion Delaware outpaced its opponents 17-9 in the fourth quarter. The Blue & Gold connected on their last three field goals of the game, while holding the Hornets without a point over the final 2:08.
GAME NOTES
- The Blue Hens held their opponent under 30 points for the first time since January 10, 2013, when they allowed 27 points against George Mason.
